Giants Make Front Office Moves; Sabean, Bochy Deals Could Be Next

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS Sports) — The San Francisco Giants have announced a series of front office promotions. Vice president of player personnel Dick Tidrow and vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans got assistant general manager added to their titles and scouting special assistant John Barr is now assistant GM and vice president of scouting and international operations. Pro scouting director Jeremy Shelley is now the vice president of pro scouting and player evaluation.

The moves could be preludes to contract extensions for GM Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy, which have reportedly been discussed in recent days. Sabean has been running the Giants since October 1996 and is the longest-tenured GM in the baseball, and given the club’s recent success and strong young core, there might not be a safer executive in baseball. It’s only natural his front office mates are rewarded for their recent strong work as well.

Bochy has been at the helm since October 2006 and has led the club to two World Championships. He is already one of the highest paid managers in baseball, and like Sabean he is under contract through the 2014 season. The club gave both men a one-year extension in October 2011 and could do the same now, keeping them together for the next three seasons.
